Anytime you feel the desire to smoke, reach for the Breather instead of a cigarette. Inhale and exhale slowly and deeply (for complete therapeutic benefits as described below ) for at least one minute - long enough to decrease the craving for nicotine which also lasts approximately one to two minutes and in some cases - only 30 seconds. If the desire to light up again happens immediately or again in 5 minutes, use the Breather.

Can the Breather really satisfy my oral addiction to cigarettes?
Nicotine withdrawal from the physical addition can be very uncomfortable, but you can gradually decrease the number of cigarettes a day by replacing them with the Breather, quit cold turkey, or select nicotine replacement therapy and simply quit. However, there’s the other side to your smoking. ORAL ADDICTION. Puffing away when you’re nervous, holding a cigarette when you pick up the phone, enjoying a drink, feeling depressed, keeping you company, or rewarding you when you’ve accomplished a task. This is psychological addition which can undermine your desire to quit. The Breather not only gives you oral gratification but relaxes you as you inhale and exhale through varying degrees of resistance which you control.

How does the Breather work?
As you breathe in and out of the Breather, you can comfortably control varying degrees of resistances. These resistances slow down your breathing creating deep, rhythmical breaths associated with a feeling of calm. This is in contrast to rapid, upper chest breathing associated with stress, especially if you are craving a cigarette.

How is the Breather therapeutic?

As you breathe in and out of the Breather, it is exercise for the lungs and breathing muscles. Resistance to inhalation (breathing in) strengthens the diaphragm, the major muscle of breathing. Resistance to exhalation (breathing out) develops strength and tone in the
abdominal muscles. Note: See Breather study on Breather Sport site. Additionally, exhalation resistance helps clear the lungs of mucus associated with smoking. This therapeutic occurrence happens because the Breather’s exhalation resistance creates a positive pressure in the airways which helps to keep the airways open, making it easier to loosen and expectorate the phlegm.

When should I start using the Breather?

If possible, begin using the Breather before your last cigarette. You want to be comfortable with it, use to it, and know how it can relax you. Note: Some smoking cessation programs have their clients begin using the Breather a minimum of 4 times per day before they set their Quit Date.

Then expect some physiological changes such as a reduced feeling of fatigue and a more relaxed mind and body typical with regular deep breathing exercises. Initially until your lungs are clear, you may also have increased coughing which is caused from mucus in the lungs due to irritation from cigarettes and pollution. Think of the Breather as rehab for your lungs as well as your mind.

What should I expect after the Breather has helped me become a non-smoker?
